People ask me about the future of AI in two moods. Some are excited and overwhelmed. Some are worried and waiting it out. Both deserve straight answers.
My short version: the future isn’t AI versus people. It’s people who use AI versus people who don’t. The answers below explain what I mean, and where a question needs more room, I link to the full page. Start with the future of AI in business for the big picture, or read what’s shifting in AI right now for the date-stamped list.

Straight answers
Is AI a bubble?
I can’t tell you what markets will do, and I don’t try. What I can tell you is that the work AI does in my business is real and useful today, whatever happens to company valuations. Build on what AI actually does for your operations, not on headlines about the industry.
Should I be worried about AI?
Concern is reasonable, but worry isn’t a plan. The practical move is to learn to use AI on your real work, put basic guardrails in place, and help the people around you do the same. The future of AI looks very different for people who use it than for people who don’t.
Will AI take my job?
Nobody can honestly promise either way. What usually changes first is the tasks inside a job, not the job itself, and people who learn to direct AI tend to become more valuable. I lay out a personal plan at https://future-of-ai.benlovro.com/will-ai-take-my-job/./
How will AI change small businesses?
I expect small teams using AI agents to compete with much bigger companies, because AI adds capacity without adding headcount. The owners who learn to delegate work to AI first will have a real head start. More at https://ai-for-business.benlovro.com/future-of-ai/./
What AI trends should business owners watch?
As of October 2026, the shifts I watch are agents going mainstream, open standards like MCP for connecting AI to tools, frequent model releases, evolving regulation and AI search changing how customers find businesses. I refresh the list quarterly at https://future-of-ai.benlovro.com/ai-trends/./
What skills will matter most as AI spreads?
Clear thinking, clear instructions, judgment, relationships and character. When AI makes producing work fast and cheap, knowing what’s worth doing and being someone people trust become more valuable.
Are AI agents the future?
Agents are a big part of where this is heading: AI that takes a goal, plans steps, uses tools and hands work to a person for approval. A 2026 Bluehost survey of 350 small business owners found 79% were aware of AI agents but only 16% had deployed one, so most of that future is still ahead. Start at https://ai-for-business.benlovro.com/ai-agents/./
Is AI regulated?
Increasingly, yes, and it keeps changing. U.S. states are passing their own AI laws, the FTC has said deceptive AI claims are still deceptive, the FCC treats AI-generated voices as artificial voices under the TCPA, and the EU AI Act is phasing in even after some 2026 delays. Talk to counsel about your specific use.
How do I use AI responsibly in my business?
Keep private data out of tools you haven’t vetted, have a human review anything customers see, disclose AI where people expect to know, be careful with AI in hiring, lending or housing decisions, and give agents only the access they need. The full checklist is at https://future-of-ai.benlovro.com/responsible-ai/./
How do I prepare my team for the future of AI?
Use AI visibly yourself, start with the tasks your team dislikes most, build a steady training rhythm, and redesign roles around judgment. Be honest about fears and invest in people’s skills. My playbook is at https://future-of-ai.benlovro.com/leading-with-ai/./
